The house already had a small courtyard and a beam that crossed the living room. We drew storage under the beam instead of fighting it, and kept the courtyard edge clear so the rooms still received light. Wardrobes were hinged in the larger bedroom and sliding where the passage was narrow. The kitchen shares a language of shutters with the living unit so the ground floor reads as one job.
